This was a 2-year WSDOT (Washington State Department of Transportation) project that was completed in the fall of 2006. BASELINE Engineering, Inc. was subcontracted by the general contractor, Tri-State Construction, Inc., for the roadway & structure construction survey for the project. The project is one phase of the HOV widening from Gig Harbor to SR5. This phase included the construction of four (4) new bridges, two (2) bridge widenings, HOV lanes, a major re-alignment of the Center St. interchange and various other elements. In conjunction with the opening of the new Narrows bridge, this project has successfully alleviated some of the traffic back-up issues on SR16. In the coming years, there will be additional phases of the SR16 HOV widening, including the Nalley Valley viaduct.
